Gift codes and referral codes

Add free credits with a gift code, and earn credits by sharing your firm's referral code.

There are two ways for a firm to get credits without buying them: a gift code from Tax Optimiser, and rewards for referring another firm. Both add ordinary credits to your balance, and like bought credits they do not expire.

Redeem a gift code

  1. Open Firm Settings and choose Credits.
  2. Under Redeem a code, type or paste the code. It is 16 letters and numbers, shown in four groups of four; the dashes are optional and capitals do not matter.
  3. Click Redeem.
The Redeem a code box with a code typed in and a Redeem button

The credits are added straight away and appear in Purchase history as Gift credits at £0.00. A code is for one use by one firm.

Unknown codeNo such code. Codes never contain the letters I, L or O or the digits 0 or 1, so a character that looks like one of those is something else.

Your referral code

If Tax Optimiser has given your firm a referral code, the Credits page has a Your referral code card. If you would like one, ask support.

The Your referral code card: the code, a share link with a Copy button, the credits a new firm and the referrer each get, the expiry date, the number of signups and the status
  • Code and Share link: give either to another accountant. The link opens the firm sign-up page with the code filled in; Copy puts it on your clipboard.
  • Per signup: the credits the new firm receives and the credits you receive each time.
  • Expires and Signups: the last day the code can be used, and how many firms have used it. Some codes have a maximum number of uses.

How a referral works

  1. The new firm signs up with your link, or types your code into the sign-up form.
  2. As soon as its account is created, it receives its welcome credits and you receive your reward credits.
  3. Your reward appears in your Purchase history as Referral credits, and the Signups count goes up.

A firm can be referred once, when it signs up. An existing firm cannot enter a referral code later, and a firm cannot use its own.

The short version

Gift codes and referral codes — in brief

A gift code is entered under Redeem a code on the Credits page. The credits are added immediately and shown in purchase history as Gift credits.

Codes are 16 characters, single use, and never contain I, L, O, 0 or 1.

A firm with a referral code sees it on the Credits page with a share link. When a new firm signs up with it, both firms receive credits.

Gift and referral credits are ordinary credits and do not expire.
