SA100 filing with Tax Optimiser, at a glance

What it does
Tax Optimiser is software you use to prepare the SA100 Self Assessment tax return, see the tax calculated, and submit the return online to HMRC yourself.
Who files
You do. The taxpayer, or their accountant acting as agent, checks the return, makes the declaration and submits it under their own Government Gateway login. Tax Optimiser does not prepare or file returns on your behalf.
Status
Coming soon. SA100 filing is in closed beta with accountancy firms and is not yet open to the public.
Price
£10 + VAT (£12 including VAT) per return, paid when you submit. There is no subscription. Accountants pay one credit per return, from £3 + VAT with credit packs.
Who it is for
Sole traders, landlords, company directors, partners and other individuals filing their own return, and accountants and bookkeepers filing for clients.
First tax year
2025-26, the year from 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026. HMRC's deadline for filing that return online is 31 January 2027.
Pages covered
The SA100 and supplementary pages SA101, SA102, SA103S, SA103F, SA104S, SA104F, SA105, SA106, SA107, SA108 and SA109, with the SA110 tax calculation summary.
Useful when
You lived abroad as a non-resident or have income from a trust. HMRC says its own online service cannot be used in those cases, so you need commercial software or a paper return.

From blank return to filed in four steps

1

Pick the pages you need

Tick the kinds of income the return has. Only those pages appear, each named with its HMRC form number.

2

Enter the figures

Boxes are grouped the way the paper form is and carry HMRC's box references, so a P60 or a set of accounts maps straight across.

3

Check the calculation

See the tax due, band by band, with payments on account, before anything is sent. Download it as a PDF.

4

Submit to HMRC

Pre-flight checks point at anything missing. Pay £10 + VAT, submit, and keep HMRC's response on file.

Add Sections screen listing the SA100 supplementary pages with tick boxes: Employment SA102, Self-employment SA103S and SA103F, Partnership SA104, UK Property SA105, Foreign SA106, Trusts SA107, Capital Gains SA108, Residence SA109 and Additional Information SA101

Choose the supplementary pages by name and form number.

Supplementary pages

Only the pages this return needs

Employment, self-employment, partnership, property, foreign income, trusts, capital gains and residence are each a tick box. Turn a page off and its figures are kept, not lost.

Data entry

HMRC's own boxes, in a layout you can read

Every field shows its HMRC box reference, and a running total of tax due stays on screen while you type. Groups without figures fold away so a simple return stays simple.

Tax calculation

The calculation follows the layout of HMRC's SA302. Each line names the boxes behind it, so a figure that looks wrong takes seconds to trace. Download it as a PDF for a mortgage lender or your own records.

Bands and payments

Band by band, with payments on account

Non-savings, savings, dividends and gains are each shown at the rate they were taxed. The balancing payment and both payments on account are set out with their due dates.

What our customers say

5.0 out of 5 from 33 Google reviews (opens in a new tab)

I recently used Tax Optimiser for the first time to submit my accounts to Companies House and HMRC, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The platform is remarkably easy to manage, walking you through the entire process without any complex jargon. On top of that, their prices are extremely competitive. It saved me a ton of time and stress—I will definitely be using them again next year.

Zulfiqar Ali Google review

I had next to no confidence that Tax Optimiser could handle accounts submission and Corporation Tax. But I gave it a whirl… Both Companies House and HMRC have initially accepted the submissions… I previously filed on professional software and I paid about £1500. This is dirt cheap.

Robert B Google review

Excellent software. Very affordable if you're doing your own small company accounts. Links with Xero… Tax Optimiser has been a complete life saver for me.

Felix Oram Google review

Simple, honest pricing

SA100 questions, answered

The SA100 is the main Self Assessment tax return for individuals in the UK. Sole traders, landlords, company directors with untaxed income, partners in a partnership and anyone else HMRC asks must send one each tax year, with supplementary pages for each kind of income.

Not yet. SA100 filing is coming soon and is currently in closed beta with accountancy firms. Leave your email address on this page and we will tell you when it opens. The first tax year supported is 2025-26 (6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026).

£10 + VAT (£12 including VAT) per return, which is one individual for one tax year. It is free to prepare and you pay only when you submit. There is no subscription. Accountants can use credits instead, one credit per return, and credit packs bring the cost down to £3 + VAT a return.

Employment (SA102), self-employment short and full (SA103S and SA103F), partnership short and full (SA104S and SA104F), UK property (SA105), foreign (SA106), trusts and estates (SA107), capital gains (SA108), residence (SA109), additional information (SA101) and the tax calculation summary (SA110).

Yes, for non-residence and split-year treatment. HMRC's own online service cannot be used by anyone who lived abroad as a non-resident, so non-residents need commercial software or a paper return. Claims under the foreign income and gains (FIG) regime, Overseas Workday Relief and the Temporary Repatriation Facility are not supported yet.

HMRC's online service cannot be used if you lived abroad as a non-resident, if you get income from a trust, or in a few other cases, and it does not let an accountant work on many clients in one place. Tax Optimiser supports the residence (SA109) and trusts (SA107) pages, and shows the full tax calculation before you submit.

No. Tax Optimiser is software, not an accountancy service. You enter the figures, check the calculation, make the declaration and press submit, and the return goes to HMRC under your own Government Gateway login, or your accountant's agent login. You stay responsible for what is in the return.

For the 2025-26 tax year, yes. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax starts on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, so the 2025-26 return, due online by 31 January 2027, is still an SA100 for everyone. Tax Optimiser covers both: MTD for Income Tax quarterly updates today, and the SA100 when it launches.

Yes. You see the calculation in the same layout as HMRC's SA302: Income Tax by band, Class 2 and Class 4 National Insurance, student and postgraduate loan repayments, the High Income Child Benefit Charge, capital gains tax and payments on account. You can download it as a PDF.

Yes. Accountants keep all their individual clients in one account, file as an agent and pay with the same credits they use for company accounts and CT600 returns. There are no per-seat fees and no annual licence.

Claims under the foreign income and gains (FIG) regime, remittance basis items, Overseas Workday Relief, top-slicing relief on life insurance gains, non-resident capital gains tax disposals, pension savings tax charges, and the pages for Lloyd's underwriters and ministers of religion.
