SA800 Returns lists every partnership and LLP client of the firm for one tax year with the state of its SA800 partnership return. Until now a partnership’s returns were only reached by selecting that organisation first; this list reaches them all from one place. Turn it on as described in Firm-wide return lists.
What each row shows
- Partnership — the name keyed on the return, with the organisation’s name underneath when the two differ. The link selects the organisation and opens the return.
- UTR — the partnership’s Unique Taxpayer Reference from the return. A partnership with no return for the year shows the UTR from its latest return, if any.
- Tax year — the year chosen in the dropdown.
- Status — the return’s own lifecycle status, below, with a red Late badge after 31 January unless the return has been submitted.
- Return — the date HMRC accepted the return, or until then the period the return covers.
- Deadline — 31 January after the end of the tax year, the online filing date for an SA800.
The status words
- Not started — the organisation has no return whose period ends in this tax year. The link opens the partnership’s returns page, where one can be created.
- Ready to start, Preparing, Ready for review — the stages a return moves through as it is worked on; see Getting started with SA800 returns.
- Submitted — sent to HMRC and awaiting the acceptance.
- Complete — HMRC accepted the return.
- Archived — a return put aside. It still appears so the year is not shown as Not started by mistake; use the status filter to hide archived rows.
Which tax year a return belongs to
A partnership return is for an accounting period, which need not run to 5 April. The list puts each return in the tax year its period ends in: a period to 31 December 2025 is a 2025-26 return, a period to 30 April 2026 is 2026-27. A partnership with two periods ending in the same tax year (a change of accounting date, say) shows two rows for that year.
Opening a return from the list
The SA800 screens work on the organisation currently selected. Clicking a row therefore selects that partnership first and then lands on its return, exactly as if you had chosen the organisation and opened Partnership return (SA800) from its menu. The organisation stays selected afterwards until you pick another.
Accountants limited to named organisations
A firm can restrict a user to a list of organisations. That user’s SA800 Returns list shows only those partnerships; everyone else sees the whole firm. The restriction is set on the accountant’s record under Firm Settings.
