Definition

The SA104 is the Partnership supplementary page to the SA100 tax return, completed by each partner for each partnership they belong to. The figures are copied from the Partnership Statement the partnership issues with its SA800. The short SA104S covers trading profit and taxed interest; the full SA104F covers every other kind of partnership income.

Who completes it

Every member of a partnership or LLP that is in business, for each partnership, whether or not they received a share of the profit. The partnership itself files the SA800 and gives each partner a Partnership Statement showing their share of each kind of income and tax; the partner copies those shares onto the SA104.

The SA104S (short) is enough when the partner’s share consists only of trading or professional profit and interest or alternative finance receipts taxed at source. The SA104F (full) is needed when the share includes untaxed interest, property income, foreign income, disposal proceeds or any other kind of income.

What it asks for

  • Partnership details: the partnership’s UTR, the dates the partner joined or left and the accounting period.
  • The partner’s share of profit or loss from the statement, the adjustments that turn it into the taxable profit for the tax year, and losses brought forward, set off or carried forward.
  • Class 4 National Insurance: the exemption tick and the adjustment box, and the voluntary Class 2 choice.
  • Other shares (full page only): savings, dividend, property, foreign and other income, tax deducted at partnership level and the partner’s share of residential finance costs.

In Tax Optimiser

Add the Partnership (SA104) section, choose short or full to match the statement the partnership issued, and press Add Partnership for each one. The profit share drives Class 4 National Insurance in the calculation. If the partnership’s own return is prepared in Tax Optimiser, the shares to copy are on its Partners step.
