Between Calculation and Submission sits the Return Preview section: the whole return drawn onto HMRC’s own forms — the SA100, every supplementary page the client uses, and the SA110 tax calculation summary — exactly as it will be filed. It is the quickest way to review a return the way HMRC (and the client) will see it, and every box on it is clickable.
What is on the pages
The preview shows the SA100’s return pages (HMRC’s two-page “do not send” information sheet is left out), then each supplementary page in return order — one sheet per employment pair, business, partnership and so on — and finally the SA110 with the calculated figures. The paper conventions are followed: whole-pound boxes print whole pounds, a loss prints in the loss box of the form even though you entered it as a negative, a Yes / No question with two cells ticks No, and zero amounts are left blank. Until HMRC has accepted the return every page carries a DRAFT watermark, and the toolbar says so.
Click a box to go to it
Hover over any box and it highlights; click it and Tax Optimiser opens the section it is entered on, opens the right card where there are several (the second employment, the third partnership), scrolls to the box and flashes it with the cursor ready in the field. Boxes the calculation fills in itself — the SA110 figures, the totals HMRC derives — highlight in grey and take you to the Calculation section instead. A box that belongs to a page not yet added opens the Choose pages window so you can add it.
The preview is rebuilt from the saved figures each time you open the section. If you have the section open while figures change elsewhere, press Refresh to redraw it.
The full SA100 return PDF
Download return PDF — here, on the Calculation section and on the Submission section — saves the same document as a PDF: the complete return on HMRC’s forms over the client’s name and UTR, with the DRAFT watermark until the return is accepted. It is the document to put in a review file or send to a client who wants to see what is being filed, and it is what client review sends for approval. The SA302 statement is a separate download on the Calculation section.
When the preview cannot be built
The preview is built from the return exactly as it would be filed, so if the return cannot yet be assembled — a blocking calculation warning, for example — the section says why instead of drawing the pages. Fix the problem on the page it names and come back.
